Guns and Grapple

The site started off as supporting a fan made magazine. The amount of storage was a problem so the name spilt off into different sections. As a fan I respect and welcome others feedback and emails, even if they are just asking a question about Lara. You might know me as Raider126 on the Eidos forums, Planet Lara's forum and Katie's forum. Probie on the Tomb Raider Girl forum. Jaden on facebook and on this site. I couldn’t of done this site without the fans help. New! Theme of the Week - EXCALIBER / EXCALIBUR- Every Wednesday!

Excalibur or Excaliber is a legendary sword wielded by King Arthur in the 6^th Century. According to mythology Arthur obtained the sword after the Sword in the Stone (a completely different sword) broke in the battle with Pellinore. Merlin then led Arthur to the lake where he met the Lady of the Lake (also known as Nimueh or Nimue) where she gave Arthur; Excalibur. It is also said that Excalibur was made in Avalon whereas some versions of the myth says that Merlin created it with his magic.

In Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Underworld, Excaliber was used as part of a teleportation device to the underworld. In the game the sword in the stone was Excaliber, not the sword given to Arthur by the Lady in the Lake. In Tomb Raider Legend Lara had to search for Excaliber which was in pieces and could only be rejoined using the Ghali Key. The Excaliber pieces were found in Japan, Ghana, Kazakhstan, and England. Lara then travelled to Nepal and obtained the Ghali Key from a plane crash she had experienced as a child. The key was used as a broach by her mother.

In the games to teleport, Excaliber had to be inserted into the slot in the stone, a ring of stone would rise from the ground and in the centre a blinding light would appear. Then the sword would be pulled out and the bearer would be transported to Avalon/Helhiem.

Cosplayer Interviews

Lara Croft has been an idol to thousands of people across the world. She has inspired people to write, draw and travel for many years. There are many TR fans that also cosplay as her, at conventions and expos or just as a hobby. I really love the idea and people who cosplay because (and I’m sure they’ll agree) it is so much more then putting on an outfit, when you cosplay you also have to take on the personality and look of the character, and personally I think to do it properly is really hard to do and it’s a great talent. We have got four fantastic interviews with Max, Emma, Luce and Tanya who tells us about why they chose to cosplay as the video game heroine Lady Lara Croft.
